  • More than one in 10 Aussies taking annual leave to maximise the April public holidays
  • Rise in demand for long haul destinations – USA, Europe and Asia most popular
  • Expedia reports 70% YOY increase in interest for Easter holidays

As the first extended public holiday of the year approaches, more than one in ten (14%) Australians are maximising the Easter and Anzac Day double-holiday-hit to take an extra-long break, according Expedia research released today. 

Those aged 25-34 years are the savviest, with 14% booking three days’ annual leave to get a 10-day break and a further 7% booking seven days’ leave to get a whole two weeks off. Read more

Leading Australian travel website Expedia.com.auTM, operated by Expedia, the world’s largest online travel company, in conjunction with foreign exchange specialist HiFX, has released its latest Expedia® Foreign Exchange Index as the Australian Dollar continues to perform robustly against the world’s major currencies.

The twice-yearly index, which reveals the top international destinations where Aussie travellers find the best value for their Australian Dollar, found that Eastern Europe has again emerged as a great value holiday destination, with six of the top ten destinations located in that region.    Read more

Aussie travellers take advantage of favourable Euro / Aussie Dollar exchange rate for European holidays

Hotel transactions conducted in the first four months of the year for some European destinations grew by at least 180% compared to the same period last year, according to Expedia.com.auTM, operated by Expedia. Inc., the world’s largest online travel company. The biggest rise in hotel bookings was posted by destinations bordering the Mediterranean such as Greece, Italy and Spain.
