Expedia has been named “World’s Leading Online Travel Agency Website” in the 20th annual World Travel Awards(WTA). The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 by Graham E. Cooke and is now acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel accolade, celebrating those companies, organisations and brands that are pushing the boundaries of industry excellence in product and service. The awards are totally impartial and are recognised worldwide as the hallmark of industry excellence.

The awards ceremony, which took place on 30th November at La Cigale hotelin Doha, Qatar were attended by the industry’s elite from across the globe. CEOs of leading travel companies, government ministers and tourism board chiefs were hosted by Turkish broadcaster Ece Vahapoglu and treated to exclusive live performances from Lebanese artiste Maya Diab, dance group Enana and electric violinist Micah. The guests of honour in this celebration of the very best travel and tourism brands were HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad al-Thani, chairperson of Qatar Museums Authority and Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulaziz al-Thani.

Gary Morrison, Senior Vice President and Head of Retail for Expedia Worldwide said “Expedia puts people at the heart of its business and we’re continually listening to our customers across all customer contact channels to gather insights to further improve our service.  This award clearly demonstrates that both our customers and our partners around the world are pleased with our investments in continually improving our service. Over the last few years we have made major investments in our technology to improve both our hotel and flight booking services  and in enabling customers to move seamlessly between mobile and desktop and it’s clear that these investments have contributed to being named the World’s Leading Online Travel Agency Website in an increasingly competitive market.”

As part of its ongoing efforts to build on customer feedback, Expedia recently announced a global partnership with Feefo to enable it to collect independent feedback on our service and is seeing that over 90% of those surveyed through Feefo rated the Expedia service good or very good (based on over 100,000 surveys).

Graham E. Cooke, President and Founder, World Travel Awards said: “We are proud to have held these Awards in Doha, showing our continued support for innovative development of tourism in this region. The Grand Final is a very competitive evening for our World Travel Awards nominees from all over the world, and these  particular winners continue to serve as an example of the most luxurious and innovative brands with unique hospitality products and services. Tonight’s recipients strive to set the highest possible bar to raise the standards of excellence in travel and tourism and they carry these accolades into 2014 with pride and passion”.
