Younger working Australians have been revealed to be more holiday deprived and fearful of taking all their annual leave than their older compatriots, according to the latest annual global Vacation Deprivation® survey from Expedia®, the world’s largest online travel company.

Younger Australians (i.e. those aged between 18 and 34) are twice as likely not to take all their annual leave as they feel that if they take time off to go on holiday they will miss an important decision at work. A further fifteen per cent of 18-34 year-olds fear that taking all of their holidays will be perceived negatively by their bosses and will jeopardise their job security.  Read more

Expedia annual global survey reveals Australians are the third most holiday deprived in the world

Australian workers take fewer holidays than all other nations except Japan and America, holidaying on average for just 16 days of the year, according to online travel company Expedia’s annual global Vacation Deprivation® survey.

The survey, which in Australia was conducted by Pureprofile on behalf of Expedia.com.au™ (operated by Expedia, Inc., the world’s leading online travel company), found that 44 per cent of Australians do not take all of their entitled annual leave days, up from 38 per cent last year.  Read more

Eastern Europe emerges as favourite must-see destination for 2008, while making travel carbon neutral barely rates a mention

This year will see Australians visiting new and different destinations, according to a recent poll into Australians’ travel resolutions for 2008 conducted by online travel company Expedia.com.au.

Almost two-thirds (64%) of the survey’s 5,000 respondents chose visiting a completely new and different destination as their number one travel resolution for 2008; interestingly, however, only 4% of respondents chose making all future trips carbon neutral as their number one travel resolution for 2008.
