Online travel company fits 12 people into Smart Car

Global online travel company, Expedia.com.auTM, succeeded in breaking an Australian record by fitting 12 people into a Smart Car. With no verified record in the country, the company set an Australian first by squeezing employees into their branded Smart Car in a recent team building exercise.

Expedia Australia Marketing Director, Kristi Barrow, who orchestrated the stunt said, “We thought it would be a fun way to get the staff involved in our latest marketing initiative with our branded Smart Car. It was fun, but needless to say, a tight fit!”

Expedia Australia has recently completed a 2 month campaign with Smartpilots Australia, with 20 branded Smart Cars touring the Sydney metro area in high pedestrian traffic locations. As a relatively new player on the Australian online travel scene, Expedia.com.au zoomed into the world of mobile outdoor advertising to raise awareness for their brand and the travel services they provide.

“I can honestly tell you, we have never received such a good response for a campaign” said Smartpilots Australia Director, Chris Doefel.  “Everyone involved loved them; from the businesses and individuals driving the branded Smart Cars, to the people seeing the Smart Cars on the street, promotional staff working on the campaign and last but not least traffic rangers.”

According to Smart Australia, the international record for the highest amount of people to fit into a Smart Car is seventeen.
